What is ICON and how does it work?

ICON infiltration is a modern, minimally invasive approach in dentistry that allows for the treatment of initial changes in the enamel without traditional preparation (drilling), with maximum preservation of natural tooth tissue. The essence of this method is that the lesion is treated not just superficially, but from within.

This is a special, fluid material (a low-viscosity infiltrant) that, thanks to its fluidity, penetrates deep into the porous enamel. In this way, it fills the microporosities created by demineralization, stabilizes the tooth from within, and makes it stronger, without any removal of healthy tooth substance.

Additionally, ICON also alters the optical properties of the lesion itself. Since this material refracts light in a way similar to healthy enamel, the white spot blends aesthetically with the rest of the tooth and becomes less noticeable. This is its greatest advantage: the problem is solved from within, while simultaneously significantly improving the appearance of the tooth.

When is ICON used?

One of the great advantages of this method is its wide application. ICON is successfully used for:

  • Initial caries lesions in the form of a white spot.
  • White spots that appear after wearing a fixed orthodontic appliance.
  • Certain cases of fluorosis and stains resulting from trauma.
  • Molar-incisor hypomineralizations (My God).
  • Early changes (cavities) between the teeth, where the process can be stopped without the loss of healthy tooth structure.

Painless one-visit treatment

It is particularly significant in children and young patients, for whom white spots on the front teeth can detract from the aesthetics of their smile and their self-confidence. At that age, it is often too early for more invasive procedures, which is why ICON is often the optimal, and even the only, right choice.

For patients, the most important thing is that the treatment is completely painless, quick, and comfortable. Usually, only one visit is needed, and the results are long-lasting.

When aesthetics and prevention go together

In properly indicated cases, ICON is not just an aesthetic solution, but an important part of modern preventive care. However, it should be emphasized that not every discoloration is suitable for this approach, nor does every lesion yield the same result. Therefore, a professional assessment is crucial to ensure a functional and long-term result with superior aesthetics.

Successful ICON treatment

An exceptional result was achieved where the white spot is aesthetically masked in almost 95%, while a discreetly reduced degree of transparency is retained at the very incisal edge.. It is important to understand that, although ICON significantly improves the appearance of the tooth, the final outcome depends on the depth and structure of the lesion itself, so the result tends toward perfection, but is always subject to the natural limitations of the tooth tissue..
